Kings Canyon in July, From Waterfall to Giant Trees
A July 2021 day moving from a waterfall and the Kings River to high canyon overlooks and a forest of giant sequoias.
Water Across the Rock
The first photograph from July 25, 2021, holds a waterfall descending a pale rock face. One stream crosses several ledges while trees frame both sides of the cliff.
Along the Kings River
Farther into the canyon, the Kings River came into view below the road. Water moves between steep rock walls toward pointed peaks in the distance, making the direction of the valley clear.
Looking Down into the Canyon
From 1:39 PM onward, the photographs look down from higher viewpoints. A river and road bend together through the valley floor while dry mountain slopes stack into the distance.
Among the Giant Trees
After 3 PM, the photographs move from open canyon to forest. The first frame holds a giant sequoia rising above a low fence and the surrounding trees.
The next photograph places a person beneath several large trees to show their scale. The final vertical frame follows a hollow opening at the base of a sequoia toward its high crown.
Across eight photographs, the day moves from water close to the canyon floor to high overlooks and then into a forest of giant trees. It records a change in viewpoint and scale over several hours rather than explaining every stop.
