Channel Islands in April, Three Days of Foxes and Wildflowers
An April 2022 sequence moving from an island fox to spring wildflowers, cliff-lined coves, ridgeline trails, and the water's edge.

The First Island Fox
The first photograph from April 2, 2022, holds a small island fox rather than an ocean view. It keeps its body low while searching the ground, surrounded by the clear light of an island spring. The opening memory is not a distant cliff but wildlife seen at close range.

Ocean Beyond the Yellow Flowers
Later in the afternoon, the view opens across a field of yellow wildflowers. Low hills carry the color toward a faint boundary between ocean and sky.

As the sun drops, the camera looks down into a cove enclosed by high cliffs. A small boat crossing the water provides the only clear measure of scale.

A Trail Toward the Water
The following day’s photograph follows a pale trail across green hills toward the ocean. Water remains the destination, but the shape of the land and the line of the trail guide the eye.

By evening, wildflowers appear again beneath a heavier sky. The lower light separates the grasses and flowers more quietly than the bright field from the first day.

Back at the Water’s Edge
The final photograph, made on April 4, brings clear water, a coastal bluff, and a small remnant of a landing structure into one frame. After looking down from high ground, the sequence ends close to the water again.

These photographs do not document a single trail step by step. They record a changing distance instead: beginning with a fox at close range, opening across flowers and ridges, and returning to the water at the end.
